Lawn Care

The key to a gorgeous lawn is proper care
Mow regularly, since mowing keeps down weeds and prevents the grass from getting too tall, which stresses it. When you water, do it occasionally and deeply rather than often and shallow. Deep watering encourages grass to put down longer roots, making it more resistant to drought. Make sure, too, that you're attempting a lawn in the proper conditions. Under large trees, in deep shade, on problem slopes, or in extremely high traffic areas you're probably better off with mulch, a groundcover, or pavers.

Lawns need about 1 inch of water per week
Keep track of rainfall with a rain gauge and then water accordingly. You can measure how much water falls from your sprinkler by positioning three or four shallow cans (such as clean tuna fish cans) around the lawn while you water. When the cans have accumulated 1 inch of water, you know you've applied 1 inch to the entire lawn.
